Brian and I got a ton of questions while building our house, but the most common one was "are you guys ready to kill each other?" Luckily we really enjoyed the process and found out that we are very compatible when it comes to decision making and agreeing on the best course of action when problems came up.
Good thing, because I'm addicted to this process and doing it again!
Here's the new house -
The backyard is absolutely gorgeous -
And the interior just needs a little bit of reworking and a facelift - but there are some great vintage elements to keep, like exposed brick, original hardwoods, amazing hardware, etc.
The plans from an old appraisal show the rough layout of the house, minus a few walls (aren't those important to show?):
The main functional issue in this house is the lack of an owner's suite upstairs. Currently there are only two bedrooms and a hall bath. Our plans are to add a 450 SF addition upstairs, which includes a generously sized master suite and relocating the laundry room upstairs instead of off the kitchen.
Here are the new plans -
We will turn what the current owners are using as an office back into a dining room, create larger openings to rooms, gut the kitchen, add a full bath off of the newly configured mudroom, and turn the back "den" into an office/bedroom.
The upstairs owner's suite will be built over the current kitchen and eating area, creating a more family-friendly layout and modern function.
Cabinets, finishes, paint colors, tile coming up next!
